The major trouble with bilingual parishes is that there are always two masses, to accomodate the different languages. Which is fine. Usually they have the English Mass first followed by the Heritage language next. Which would be fine except that people start arriving early for the second mass and instead of waiting in the Church Hall they all mill around in the narthex and talk, by the time the Eucharistic Procession was in progress, the people in the narthex had come through and were making noise in the back of the church during the Tantum Ergo. I wanted to YELL:
You might not understand the language, but this is Mass, it is just as reverential and holy and sacred as when this is done in your language. We are still adoring the Body and Blood Soul and Divinity of Jesus and you are still being disrespectful to HIM.
But that would have disturbed the Mass and the Action and would have be considered uncharitble.
And no having just one mass in latin would not solve the problem. People, would be just a rude at a singular latin mass as an english one. When they don't understand they ignore, and don't consider it important. That's my conclusion based on my observation. Which could explain the whole No Latin at Mass movement. People don't respect what they don't understand.
He said that Pro-abortion Catholic (politicians) should NOT present themselves for Communion. And yet Pelosi and Biden approached and partook of the Blessed Sacrament at the hands of NOT the Pope.
It could be that the Minister of Communion didn't recognize them as Pro-abortionist. Is this the Pope's fault, I don't think so. What was he supposed to do, give the Ministers a bunch of photos so that they could tell which foreign politician should be denied communion. Honestly, How are they supposed to tell. Do people reallythink that that whole world knows the US politicians on sight in a crowd that large. They should have refrained. They took communion from Ministers that they knew wouldn't recognize them.
He didn't have the Benedictine XVI arrangement. I really don't care. The mass, from what I could see was celebrated according to the GIRM, and his homily, from what little Frodo would let me hear, seemed orthodox.
He wants to help the poor, and the environment, and the whole planet (God's creation) I don't know how this is going to go but I know how this is going to go.
Environmentalists will praise him on wanting to protect the earth, they will see it as the Church being on board with Recycling and save the animals and go vegan, and no animal products in clothing or animal testing and this and that. AND and and...MIssionaries to the poorest parts of this planet will say: if he really wants to help the poor, help them limit those pesky money consuming little pests, you know... babies. They will argue that if he really wants to help the poor he should allow the use of condoms for the truly desitute. I mean, as far as they are concerned, unlike the pill or the IUD or patch or this or that, the barrier method doesn't cause abortions if it fails. So what could it hurt. How could it possibly be wrong? (The fact that it is basically committing the sin of onanism [read the story of Onan- google it if you need help in getting to the story.] God was very direct when Onan "spilled his seed on the ground "( thereby wasting it) God had him ..um er.. cancelled is totally beside the point)
Maybe we will get the Spirit of Pope Francis talks. You know like the Spirit of Vatican II talks.
I think I am going to stop critiquing his vestments and choice of outerwear, and his refusal of this symbol or that symbol. He is going to get so much more headaches over defending church teaching
Full of grace
The Lord is with thee
Blessed art thou amongst women
And blessed is the fruit of thy womb,Jesus
Mother of God
Pray for our Pope and us sinners
Now and at the hour of our deaths Amen
He, Pope Francis, it seems from his supporters, wants to strip down the Vatican. He hasn't automatically rehired the CURIA. That is telling?? He may be waiting for his installation. I would prefer his coronation, but I aint going to get he coronation. But I am going off on a tangent.
He offers a simple mass. Don't get me wrong, I prefer the simple dignified mass. IF the parish is too poor to get Gold in their vestments, use the very best you can afford. But to NOT use the very best that you have, because you shun richness is denying God the best in your offering.
As one take great care to choose the best bread and the best wine to offer in sacrifice and to confect the Body and Blood of our Lord, so too should the same care be taken in choosing the Vestments. The Vestments are an offering to God. It is the priest telling Christ: I stand in your person and therefore I will dress You in the very best that I have, because You deserve the best that I have.
Further, I am sorry this may be long:
Why refuse the Mozetta? To have it and not use it is the waste of money. You shun not only the article but he sympbolism of the article.
He didn't wear the red shoes- symbolising he walks in the blood of the martyrs? Were they too richly made?
What is he going to do, have cheaper mozettas and mitres and everything made so he feels comfortable, rather than use what he has inherited? Wouldn't that waste more money?
Jesus may have eaten with the tax collectors but he didn't dress like one. He didn't PLAY at being poor, He WAS poor. The Church ISN'T poor, the pope shouldn't PLAY at being poor. There is being humble and there is playing false.
Joseph and Mary could only afford the offering of pigeons. Do you think they would have offered pigeons if they could have afforded doves?
When the woman poured oil on Jesus and anointed him, It was Judas who said: What a waste, the oil could have been sold and given to the poor. Jesus answered: The poor will be with you always. It is right that she does this.
The rich man and the poor woman: She gave all she had, he gave what he wanted, or what he felt comfortable offering.
Maybe I am wrong.
Maybe the church shouldn't be this rich, but it is.
Rich people who dress poor and live poor are often accused of slumming. It is a form of lying, isn't it?
I will obey the pope in matters of faith, doctrine, and morals, but if it not a sin to NOT LIKE the pontiff, I don't think I will like him much
As evidenced by the ink-jet black smoke pouring out of that same stove's chimney this night (Rome time) In fact the smoke itself was indistinguishable from the black sky that the only way you knew for sure that it was smoking is by the wavy disappearance and reappearance of the chimney itself.
Benedict XVI was elected after 26 hours and he was a quick election. This may take a while.
After complaining about S&L I found that they keep a small streaming window in the corner of the screen. But EWTN does the better job of showing Masses, Liturgies and Ceremonies.
Hey in a month I may think they aren't that great either and cancel them and stick with secular TV. At least then when they make annoying it is through willful ignorance- okay, maybe not!
First they talk and talk and talk during the Introit. Then they talk and translate the Latin
Why don't they just shut up. If they need to give information that they think is so very important (like backgrounders and what ever- ) can't they do this as a lead-in to the Mass.
And what would be so hard about subtitling the name of the Hymn or Mass Setting? Subtitles of the Latin or the Italian, instead of talking. We wouldn't tolerate this intrusion of unnecessary noise during Mass on Sunday, but on TV it's fine? And yet people get upset during Mass when a baby fusses
Added: I just bought EWTN for 2.79 a month. Too bad I couldn't get you off my line up.
Right in the middle of March Break.
My kids are going to have to find some way of entertaining themselves with one less TV. Either they, dare I say it, agree to watch the same thing as their dad, or Gasp, find something offline, offTV to do.
If abortion isn't destroying anything but a blob of cells, why does even one person suffer regret after getting or performing them. How many oncologists regret the tumors they've removed or destroyed with chemicals? How many patients cry for the parasite, or virus or bacteria they are killing by agreeing to surgery or antibiotics or chemicals? Yet we hear more than a few post abortive women, former abortion nurses and former abortion providing doctors routinely coming out and regretting their decision and their participation in abortions. Has any patient, nurse or doctor regretted destroying a parasite, a germ, a cancerous tumor? If an unborn child is the same as any other glob of cells why aren't the reactions the same? Could it be because they aren't the same?

Six things there are, which the Lord hateth, and the seventh his soul detesteth:
Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that deviseth wicked plots, feet that are swift to run into mischief, A deceitful witness that uttereth lies, and him that soweth discord among brethren. My son, keep the commandments of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother.
